Shahrukh Khan hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati

On 22nd January was the night which everyone was waiting for. As India braced to catch the first glimpse of the King in the Emperor’s clothing, the debate whether SRK fits into the shoes of Big B was speculated upon.

Nobody had the answers till 9 pm today. However from the first 30 minutes of the first episode, it seems SRK will has literally fit into the Big B’s shoes — sitting in the same revolving chair, facing the same TFT monitor in the same blue-light ambiance with the same old music playing in the background.

The episode began from where Big B had ended, quizzing the last candidate to appear on Kaun Banega Crorepati Dwitiya, who had ended up earning just Rs 80,000 when the curtains fell on the show.

SRK has stepped into the show when his career is at the pinnacle and if at all people are calling it a big bargain, it’s because he risked losing some of his fame, if not fortune, just in case he failed to live up to expectations. But SRK being SRK, he has done it and has added his element of reverence and awe to the show. And if Big B was reverence personified, SRK is all the ‘fun and energy’, something that is likely to go extremely well with the young.

In an attempt to be different from ex-host Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, SRK has changed the popular lingo of the show. Remember Bachchan’s catchphrase “Lock Kiya Jaye”? This will now be replaced with “Freeze Kiya Jaye”! Shah Rukh wants to ensure that, although the basic format of the quiz show is maintained, his individual style comes through evidently. So when the participant is asked if he is sure of the final answer, you can expect SRK to quip, “Kucchha Kucchha Pukka Pukka”. What’s more? If the contestant wants to change the question, SRK will request computerji for a “Palat”.

In Amitabh Bachchan’s KBC, those who wanted to quit would simply say “I Quit”. But Shah Rukh just made this deed a wee bit special for contestants, who will now have to say “Shah Rukh, main aapko galey lagana chahta hoon”. If nothing else, the players can be rest assured they will at least get a hug from the King Khan!

All said and done, SRK exceeds the benchmark that Big B had set and possibly fix new ones. He has proved that he is definitely the Don when it comes to matching the charismatic baritone of Big B.
